#MyGateTradeStory

The trading that defines me at Gate doesn't make me rich. It just keeps me sane.
It happened last year during a major and chaotic market downturn. You know the feeling—your phone keeps vibrating, liquidation notifications pop up like a horror movie, and everyone on social media is screaming that the world is ending. I was stuck in a deep futures position, watching my margin drain in real-time. My heart pounding in my chest.
In the midst of this total panic, my cheap earbuds broke. One side completely died.
I took them off to see the damaged cable, and suddenly, the silence of my room took over. Outside my window, it was just an ordinary Tuesday afternoon. A man walking his dog. Trees swaying in the wind. The world wasn't ending; it was just my screen.
I looked back at my open trades. I had two choices: add more money to the margin to "hope" for a bounce, or accept that I was wrong, take the loss, and close the app.
Every trading guru tells you to "fight for your position." But in that silence, looking at my broken earbuds, I realized something that truly changed my mindset: The market owes me nothing for a comeback, and my peace of mind is more valuable than a losing position.
I pressed 'Close Market.' I took a loss. It hurt, but once the trade was over, the anxiety disappeared. I closed my laptop, stepped out, and bought a pair of cheap $10 earbuds from the corner store.
My perspective shifted: That day, I stopped treating trading like a battle I had to win. Previously, I thought a good trader was someone who never gave up. Now, I know a good trader is someone who knows when to walk away. I stopped over-leveraging, stopped staring at 1-minute charts, and started setting clear boundaries.
Sometimes, the most successful trade you can make is the one where you disconnect, accept reality, and protect your mental health. I lost some capital that day, but I got my life back. And ironically? Since I stopped trading in panic, my portfolio has never looked healthier.
