why does @MicroStrategy exist and why do people buy $MSTR instead of bitcoin?
> started in 1989 as a boring software company
> rebranded to "strategy" in february 2025
> michael saylor looked at cash rotting from inflation and said bitcoin fixes this
> started buying bitcoin in august 2020
> now holds 846,842 BTC the largest corporate holder on earth
> more than blackrock's entire bitcoin etf
> bought it all using debt, stock sales, and preferred shares
> average buy price $66,384 $BTC per coin
so why buy $MSTR instead of just buying bitcoin?
> some institutions can't legally hold crypto but can buy stocks
> mstr gives them bitcoin exposure through a regulated equity
> swiss national bank holds mstr. sovereign wealth funds hold mstr
> mstr also trades at a premium to its actual bitcoin value
> meaning if bitcoin pumps mstr pumps harder
> it's leveraged bitcoin exposure without touching a wallet
the risk? if bitcoin dumps hard mstr gets destroyed faster too
