BlockBeats News. On June 19, according to mempool data, miners mined an empty block at Bitcoin block height 954352 (i.e., the block contains only the coinbase transaction with the block reward). The time interval from the previous block height is only 62 seconds.

Packing empty blocks is driven by economic considerations. This is the most sensible choice for miners. To fully utilize this period for mining and to avoid conflicts with the transactions packed in the parent block, miners cannot fill the block with transactions—meaning miners can only attempt to mine empty blocks.
