World Bank Group Executive Vice President Zhang Wencai: Global economic growth is expected to slow down this year

On June 17, at the 2026 Lujiazui Forum “General Assembly II: Global Financial Governance Reform and Cooperation,” Zhang Wencai, Managing Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of the World Bank Group, said that, according to the World Bank’s latest Global Economic Prospects report, global economic growth slowed from 2.9% in 2025 to 2.5% in 2026. Compared with forecasts made earlier this year, the growth rate of about two-thirds of the world’s economies has declined. If energy supply disruptions cannot be alleviated in the short term, global economic growth in 2026 is expected to fall further. (People’s Financial News)
