Value difference of ten times, it's really hard to justify Canada not taking these three points
Brothers, take a look at this number first—Canada's total team value is 190 million euros, Qatar's team is 19.93 million euros. Almost ten times difference. What does that mean? Canada's Alphonso Davies alone is worth 40 million euros, while Qatar's entire team adds up to less than half of that. Valuation can't represent everything, but when the gap reaches this level, basically every position one-on-one is a crushing advantage.
Let's look at the rankings. Canada is currently around 30-something in the world, Qatar is 57th. The ranking gap isn't huge, but considering valuation and squad depth, Canada's advantage is actually much greater than the ranking suggests.
In the first round, both sides drew 1-1. Canada played Bosnia, Larin came on as a substitute and scored in 121 seconds; Qatar played Switzerland, equalized in the 94th minute with an own goal. Two draws, but the quality is different. Canada dominated the game but didn't win; Qatar was under pressure all match and scraped a point at the end. These two types of draws reflect completely different game contents.
This match is played at BC Place in Vancouver, with Canada as one of the hosts. In the last four games in Vancouver, Canada has won all, scoring 17 goals and conceding only 2. The last time they lost in Vancouver was in 2016. Such home performance is really not luck.
Qatar has not won any of their last 10 away games. Plus, considering the North American time difference, long flights, and climate differences, Qatar's physical condition will become more apparent in the second half. As long as Canada doesn't rush to finish off the opponent in the first half, and slowly wears them down into the 60s or 70th minute, Qatar's defense line is likely to collapse on its own.
Anyway, my personal view is very clear: Canada must win this game, and probably by more than two goals. If Canada can't even beat Qatar, then forget about beating Switzerland later. These three points are the host's bottom line.
