According to a report from Crypto World News, the U.S. District Attorney’s Office in Maryland said that Rodney “Bitcoin Rodney” Burton, a man from Miami, Florida, has pleaded guilty in federal court, admitting that he conspired to operate an unlicensed remittance business in connection with promoting the Hyperfund crypto scam. Prosecutors said that Hyperfund claimed to be a legitimate cryptocurrency investment platform, but in reality it was a global wire transfer fraud scheme that obtained $1.8 billion from victims worldwide. Burton personally received at least $7.8517 million, and he faces up to 5 years of federal imprisonment. Sentencing is scheduled for July 23.
