U.S. bipartisan senators jointly introduce a resolution opposing Trump's pardon of SBF

Crypto Mars News: On June 18, U.S. Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis and Democratic Senator Rubén Gallego supported a non-binding resolution to be introduced on Wednesday, opposing former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) from receiving a presidential pardon, sentence reduction, or any form of executive clemency.
The resolution states that under no circumstances should SBF receive executive clemency, including presidential pardons or sentence reductions.
The resolution also states that if U.S. President Trump approves SBF's pardon request, it will "erase his conviction, weaken deterrence, and send a serious wrong signal that large-scale financial fraud perpetrators can evade permanent accountability."
Since the presidential pardon power is granted by the Constitution, this resolution is non-binding.
SBF has previously formally applied for a pardon from Trump.
Last week, the U.S. Federal Court of Appeals upheld his conviction and sentence, leaving only the presidential pardon or an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court as his legal options.
SBF was convicted in November 2023 on seven federal felony charges related to the misuse of FTX user funds and was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2024.
