Survey: Only 16% of Americans Expect a Positive Impact of AI on Society - ForkLog
Only 16% of Americans expect a positive effect from artificial intelligence on society, while about 40% believe the impact will be negative. These results were obtained by the Pew Research Center based on a survey of 5,119 adult residents of the United States.
The most skeptical about artificial intelligence are U.S. citizens under 30 who vote for Democrats. Only 14% of respondents in this category expect a positive impact of the technology on society.
Other sociologists also recorded similar sentiments. In May, the international research company YouGov reported that 71% of Americans believe AI development is happening too quickly. Pessimists about the long-term impact of the technology on society were twice as many as optimists — 51% versus 25%.
In January 2025, YouGov employees recorded a milder picture: 35% of respondents expected a positive impact of AI on society and 34% expected a negative one.
Recall that in May 2025, a joint study by Reuters and the analytics firm Ipsos claimed that 61% of Americans consider artificial intelligence a threat to humanity.
