The Russian State Duma condemns the United States' aggressive policy towards Cuba

The Russian State Duma (Lower House of Parliament) issued a statement on the 10th condemning the rapid escalation of tensions surrounding Cuba, which stems from the United States applying "unprecedented, unreasonable, and unlawful pressure" on Cuba. According to RIA Novosti, the Russian State Duma adopted a statement during a plenary session addressed to the United Nations, international parliamentary organizations, and parliaments around the world, criticizing the U.S. increasingly aggressive policies toward Cuba. The statement said that the U.S. economic and financial blockade and energy embargo against Cuba are blatant interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign country and seriously violate the principles of the United Nations Charter. The U.S. aims to coerce the Cuban leadership through economic and military blackmail, push for regime change in Cuba, and ultimately gain full control over Cuba. The statement called for an immediate halt to all political and economic pressure on Cuba and an end to the U.S. new colonialist practices of political bargaining through extortion and threats. It also urged all parties to condemn the U.S. actions and to immediately lift the trade, economic, financial, and energy blockade against Cuba. (Xinhua)
