According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Miami-based crypto promoter Rodney Burton ("Bitcoin Rodney") has pleaded guilty to his involvement in the HyperFund crypto scam case, admitting to conspiracy to operate an unlicensed remittance business. Prosecutors stated that HyperFund used a nonexistent crypto mining business as a cover, promising members passive returns of 0.5% to 1% daily, with the case involving up to $1.8 billion. Burton admitted to transferring HyperFund investors' funds through entities disguised as consulting firms and profited at least $7.85 million from it. He was arrested at Miami Airport in January 2024 and was subsequently deemed a high flight risk and detained to this day. He faces a maximum of 5 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for July 23. (Cryptopolitan)
