Beginner's 3-minute Guide: How to Play the World Cup on Polymarket?

If it's your first time using Polymarket, you can simply think of it as:
"A tradable World Cup prediction market."
The biggest differences from traditional sports betting are a few points:
✅ Real-time price fluctuations
✅ Can sell in advance, both take profit and cut losses
✅ Trade directly with USDC
✅ All odds are open and transparent, visible to all
Here, using Brazil vs. Morocco as an example, we'll help you quickly understand the entire interface.
Step 1: Select the match
After entering the World Cup section, click on the match you want to participate in.
👉 Polymarket official website:
For example:
🇧🇷 Brazil vs. Morocco 🇲🇦
At the top of the page, it will show the win probability trend for both sides.
The current market believes:
Brazil wins 58%
Draw 26%
Morocco wins 18%
The percentages shown here are actually the market's "implied probabilities."
Step 2: Choose the betting type
Polymarket offers more than just win/draw/loss; here are some common options:
① Moneyline (Match outcome)
Predict the final result: Brazil wins / Draw / Morocco wins
For example, showing BRA 58¢ means spending $0.58 to buy 1 share. If Brazil wins, each share is worth $1; if not, it becomes worthless.
② Handicap betting
For example, Brazil -1.5 means Brazil must win by at least 2 goals. Winning by only 1 goal or drawing counts as a loss.
③ Total goals
Over 2.5 goals: combined goals are 3 or more
Under 2.5 goals: total goals are 2 or fewer
④ Both teams to score
YES: both teams score at least once
NO: at least one team doesn't score
⑤ Who scores first
Brazil scores first / Morocco scores first / No goals in the entire match
⑥ Total team goals
For example, Brazil over 0.5: Brazil scores at least 1 goal
Brazil under 0.5: Brazil scores no goals in the entire match
Step 3: Place an order
In the trading area on the right, click [Buy], select YES or NO, and enter the amount.
For example: Brazil YES, 58¢
Invest $58 USDC to buy 100 shares.
If Brazil ultimately wins, you get back $100 USDC, netting a profit of $42 USDC.
Step 4: Sell in advance
This is the biggest difference from traditional sports betting.
After the match starts, if Brazil scores the first goal and the winning probability rises from 58% to 80%, you don't have to wait for the match to end—you can sell directly to lock in profits. Conversely, if the trend is unfavorable, you can also cut losses early.
Risk warning
Prediction markets are not guaranteed to be profitable; here are some points to note:
· Prices fluctuate rapidly
· Small markets may lack liquidity
· Early selling may experience slippage
· Manage your position well, avoid overtrading
The World Cup has always been played by many, but the emergence of Polymarket has made it the first time there is a truly "sports prediction trading market" for the World Cup.
In the past, everyone was betting on results; now, more and more people are trading probabilities.
