Deep Tide TechFlow News, June 17th, according to Semiconductor-Today, Coherent announced that it has signed a letter of intent with the U.S. Department of Commerce to obtain up to $50 million in direct funding support based on the CHIPS and Science Act, for expanding advanced manufacturing capacity of AI photonic chips.



Coherent stated that this capacity expansion will strengthen the U.S. domestic photonic chip supply chain capabilities, support the infrastructure for AI computing power to meet the demand for high-speed data transmission, alleviate communication bottlenecks caused by large-scale AI computing, and work with NVIDIA to promote upgrades in optical networking and interconnection technologies for AI "data center factories." Previously, NVIDIA announced an investment of $2 billion in Coherent.
