My First Trading Loss — The Lesson That Shaped Everything

#我的Gate交易时刻

Before I ever made serious money in trading, I earned my first real income through content creation. Around $40 to $50. It wasn't much, but it was mine. And I decided to put it to work in the market.

I had 3 to 4 trades open. I felt confident. I had done my research. I had the experience, or so I thought.

Then something shifted in the U.S. market. A macro event hit. And within what felt like minutes, every single one of my positions went red. Back to back to back to back. My entire first earnings were gone.

It was heartbreaking. Not just because of the money, but because I realized that in trading, experience alone doesn't protect you. Market conditions don't care about your preparation.

But here's what that loss gave me:
✅ Respect for risk management
✅ The discipline to never overexpose a position
✅ The understanding that macro events are always a factor

That one moment of pain became the foundation of how I trade today.

If you have ever lost your first earnings in the market, you are not alone. That heat taught me more than any profit ever could.

What was YOUR defining trading moment?

Only after losing money do you realize that surviving is a hundred times more important than making quick money.

U.S. macro events are really the black swan disasters in the crypto world, unpredictable and hard to prevent.

Back-to-back liquidation crashes are so real; that feeling of suffocation still makes my palms sweat when I think about it now.

#My Gate Trading Moments This is a great topic—every old-school crypto “weed” (red-veteran trader) has a pocketful of stories.

I actually think losing money the first time is better the sooner, the smaller the principal, the bigger the lesson, the more worthwhile.

The last sentence is so true: profit makes people inflate, loss makes people evolve.

Your mindset is solid. A lot of people quit the scene after losing everything—being able to review and reflect is what makes you a winner.

So, how are you managing your position size now? Curious about the specific ratio.

The money earned from content creation is lost in the market; I am familiar with this path, a common problem among creators.

The first time I truly lost money was unforgettable—I was all-in on scam/low-quality altcoins, and they were cut in half in a single day. I couldn’t sleep that night.
