Why are Chinese people particularly anxious? From the root of the food:
Chinese diet is a huge pro-inflammatory combination:
Pro-inflammatory foods + high-pressure environment + anxiety genes work together
First of all:
White rice and flour, refined carbohydrates, Guangdong's unknown herbal soups, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai's refined sweets, Northwest carbohydrates, so-called "delicacies" from various regions, are actually rich in seasonings that mask insufficient protein intake + high-temperature destruction
Diet and "anxiety genes" create a vicious cycle through the following mechanisms:
Chinese people generally have the 5-HTTLPR gene (serotonin transporter gene): often called the "anxiety gene" or "sensitive gene."
Carriers of the short variant (S/S) are more sensitive to stress and more prone to anxiety and depression.
Emotional eating drive: Under anxiety, the brain lacks serotonin.
Online slang "Pig addiction"
To quickly obtain dopamine and relieve stress, individuals are more likely to develop a pathological craving for high-sugar, highly refined carbohydrates.
High-refined carbs and high-sugar diets damage the gut barrier (leaky gut), leading to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) entering the bloodstream, causing systemic inflammation. This inflammatory signal is transmitted to the brain via the "brain-gut axis," further exacerbating anxiety and depression symptoms.
Inflammatory response intensifies: Studies show that people with an anxious phenotype or under chronic stress have immune systems that are hyper-alert and prone to generalized inflammation.
At this point, consuming pro-inflammatory foods amplifies the body's inflammatory response, forming a vicious cycle of "anxiety → eating junk food for relief → increased inflammation → more anxiety."
