Card network giants compete for an AI agent payment entry point: Visa teams up with OpenAI, and Mastercard launches AP4M machine payments.

CryptoWorld News reports that Visa is expanding its partnership with OpenAI to integrate payment infrastructure into the ChatGPT agent, allowing cardholders to authorize the AI to directly initiate online shopping payments. At the same time, Mastercard launched AP4M, a multi-channel settlement system for high-frequency machine-to-machine transactions, utilizing Agentic Tokens for machine reconciliation and security. Visa is replacing physical card numbers with AI-Ready Cards and setting spending limits and approval thresholds, while AP4M focuses on microtransactions and second-level transaction scenarios.
