ByteDance will spin off its AI pharmaceutical business into an independent entity while maintaining a controlling stake, with the core team, core algorithms, technology platform, and early drug pipeline assets integrated into the new entity. The new company is led by the ByteAI pharmaceutical team established in 2021, a team of 50 people will continue to receive computing power from Volcano Engine, and internal protein structure prediction models will also be incorporated. The team has built the AI pharmaceutical platform Anew Labs and disclosed the IL-17 small molecule project at the American Society for Immunology annual meeting in April 2026, demonstrating that research has advanced from algorithm models to target and pipeline validation stages.
