In the past two days, I’ve seen again and again stories about cross-chain bridges being stolen from and oracles acting up. In the comments, a bunch of people are shouting, “I told you to wait for confirmation.” The truth is, “waiting for confirmation” isn’t some kind of mysticism. It’s you asking: has this cross-chain asset really been safely settled on-chain, or did the multi-signature group—the few people involved—or the oracle just issue you an “air receipt” at their quoted price?

Multi-signature looks stable, but really it’s just swapping a single point of failure for a probability problem: “a few people simultaneously being stupid / getting phished.” Oracles are even more realistic—if their quote goes sideways, the bridge-side accounting books immediately go sideways with it. I used to think it was slow, too, but then I figured it out: being slower at least lets anomalies show up in the stage before they “mint/dispense” to you. The loss isn’t yours—it's the system that gets stuck first.

Anyway, now when I cross-chain, I default to running into weird situations. If I can avoid the bridge, I won’t use it; if I have to use one, I treat “confirmation” as part of the fee. Be cautious.
