The reason is pretty simple; the barrier to building has been lowered, AI has made building cheap, but distribution is now expensive.
Recently, Lightspeed hired Claire to join under the role of partner and media relations. Other VCs will follow. Yes, VCs follow VCs (they FOMO as well) then it turns into a pattern.
Also, products are no longer solving for global solutions, but a narrowing down has occurred; hence, distribution has to be narrowed down to channels where these potential customers are found.
We've seen the likes of Packy McCormick and what he is doing with Not Boring Capital (this is just Substack). Think about what local TikTokers and media brands are doing on TikTok and Instagram. Distribution is the most needed.
