Thursday, Trump said negotiations with Iran are "progressing very smoothly"
June 4th, according to Jinshi Data, on the 3rd local time, U.S. President Trump stated that negotiations with Iran are progressing very smoothly, and a new round of talks may be held this weekend.
Once the agreement is signed, the Strait of Hormuz will be immediately reopened.
Trump said that if Iran signs the agreement, it means they have committed never to possess nuclear weapons, never to develop them independently, and never to purchase them externally.
Trump stated that the initial draft of the agreement only included the clause "not to develop independently," and did not include "never to purchase externally."
This issue triggered two weeks of negotiations, but ultimately the U.S. added this clause as well.
As long as Iran signs that document, the agreement will officially take effect.
Trump said that in theory, "they are very close to signing the agreement."
Trump stated, "We could easily spend another two or three weeks to completely eliminate the other side. But I would prefer not to do that."
He said that if the same goal can be achieved through a written agreement without causing large-scale destruction, he prefers this approach.
Trump also said he is trying to distinguish between the issue of opening the Strait of Hormuz and the conflict in Lebanon.
