According to the European Commission, due to the economic impact of the Iran conflict and increasing global competition, the European Union may lose over 1 million jobs this year (2026). About 560k positions are at risk of energy cost pressures, while 600k automotive industry jobs are under strain. The construction, metals, chemicals, and transportation sectors are expected to be hit hardest by soaring energy prices.
