I used to be a bit paranoid, always saying "I only look at on-chain data," and whenever the data was empty, I would start doubting life: Is someone washing, dumping, or messing with me again... It was only later that I realized many times it was just a "hiccup." Indexers/Subgraphs are actually like delivery drivers; what happens on the chain hasn't reached your door yet. Plus, with RPC rate limiting, especially during airdrop season when everyone is spamming tasks and checking points like clocking in at work, nodes get overwhelmed, and you hit a 429 or timeout directly. To put it simply, it's not that the chain isn't moving; the window you're looking through is just in line. Now I usually compare: check the same swap with another RPC, or directly look up the raw transaction logs in the browser, to at least confirm that "the data source isn't overwhelmed" before starting to imagine plots... That's how I do it now.
