I was wondering, like many of you, what is the best time to trade gold? I discovered that the market almost never closes, but not all times are equal. Gold starts moving from Sydney on Sunday evening and continues until Friday, meaning nearly 24 hours a day but with varying activity.
There are four major sessions that control the market: Sydney is quiet with less liquidity, Tokyo maintains moderate activity, London is the real heart of the market with strong movement, and New York ends the day with the most intense fluctuations. Regarding gold trading times specifically in Saudi Arabia, the best period is the overlap between London and New York, roughly from 4 PM to 8 PM during standard time. During this time, liquidity is high and spreads are low, giving you better opportunities.
I noticed that many people don’t know that gold trading hours in Saudi Arabia vary depending on the type of instrument you trade. If you trade forex or CFDs, you can trade almost 24 hours. But if you trade mining company stocks or exchange-traded funds, you are limited to official stock exchange hours.
American economic data is what really moves the market—jobs reports, interest rate decisions, all these things directly influence gold. So, you need to follow the economic calendar before entering any trade.
From my experience, the best strategy is to focus on the London session and its overlap with New York. Here, you can find clear trends and strong movements. But watch out for major news, as it can move the market wildly within minutes.
Regarding gold trading hours in Saudi Arabia on different days, Monday is usually quiet with less liquidity, but from Tuesday to Thursday, the movement is very strong, and Friday requires caution because people close their positions before the weekend.
The most important advice: use a calculated stop-loss, don’t trade with large sizes during major news releases, and capital management is everything. Gold offers many opportunities, but you need to be organized and not rush. Check the economic calendar before trading and plan your strategy based on the sessions that suit your style.
