I just recently realized that the closing times of the U.S. stock market are quite complicated for people in Taiwan because of the switch between daylight saving time and standard time.

Now that daylight saving time is in effect, the regular trading hours for the U.S. stock market are from 9:30 PM to 4:00 AM Taiwan time the next day.
If you like to trade before or after hours, pre-market is from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM, and after-hours is from 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM.

The U.S. stock market mainly operates through three exchanges: the New York Stock Exchange, which is the largest; the NASDAQ, which hosts many tech stocks; and the American Securities Exchange, which mainly trades small and mid-cap stocks.
Although each exchange operates independently, their opening and closing times are basically synchronized.

Another important point to note is the U.S. stock market holidays.
In 2026, there will be many statutory holidays when the market is closed, such as New Year’s Day in January, Martin Luther King Jr. Day in mid-January, Washington’s Birthday in February, Good Friday in April, Memorial Day in May, Independence Day in July, Labor Day in September, Thanksgiving in November, and Christmas in December.
Some holidays, like the day after Thanksgiving and the day before Christmas, will close three hours early.
These details are quite important to avoid trying to trade only to find the market is closed.
