ETH drops 0.49% in 15 minutes: Market correction and moving average resistance resonate, triggering short-term selling pressure
Between 00:30 and 00:45 UTC on May 26, 2026, ETH saw a sharp drop of 0.49% within 15 minutes, with a price range of 2094.68 - 2108.96 USDT and a swing of 0.68%. This abnormal move occurred against the backdrop of overall market pressure. During the same period, BTC fell 1.3%, the total crypto market capitalization saw a slight pullback, and the Fear and Greed Index remained in the neutral zone of 49.
The main driver of this move was the combined effect of the market’s broad pullback and weakness in technical indicators. The crypto market entered a consolidation phase this week; BTC gave back part of its gains, and short-term traders followed technical signals to sell. ETH’s price remained below all major moving averages. MA50 is at $2263, MA200 is at $2533, and the current price of $2099 has been fully suppressed by the moving-average system. RSI(14) is in a weak range of 38.12, which reinforces bearish expectations and triggers algorithmic sell orders.
In addition, pressure from the ETH/BTC exchange rate and changes in the DeFi competitive landscape intensified short-term volatility. Ethereum DeFi TVL’s share fell to 53%, giving competing chains more market share, and the market’s long-term assessment of the Ethereum network’s value was affected. On-chain data shows ETH exchange reserves fell to 16.2 million ETH (the lowest since 2016), but Gas fees are also at a historical low of 0.692 Gwei, reflecting relatively subdued on-chain activity. Low liquidity, together with a divergence from price fundamentals, amplifies the magnitude of short-term price swings.
Technically, close attention should be paid to whether the $2093 support level holds. If it breaks, ETH could test $2077. During low-liquidity periods, smaller trading volumes may trigger larger price fluctuations. Currently, ETH remains under pressure from the moving-average system, and the risk of algorithmic sell orders still persists.
