Zerion Kills Its Own Chain to Chase Something Bigger
Zerion winds down ZERϴ Network, redirecting all energy into its API and wallet. Users must bridge assets off the chain before July 31, 2026.
The gasless experiment is over. Zerion is pulling the plug on ZERϴ Network and doubling down on what’s actually working.
The decision came in a thread posted by @zerodotnetwork on X, addressed directly to users and early builders who had trusted the chain from day one.
The Idea Was Right. The Chain Was Not.
ZERϴ launched with a specific problem to solve. Gas fees, the team argued, were the single biggest wall blocking everyday users from going onchain.
Their answer was the first EVM-compatible, fully gasless rollup. As @zerodotnetwork posted, they built it to prove that “onchain UX could be radically simpler.” Zero gas for Zerion wallet users, open paymaster for anyone building on top. That was the thesis.
Running it changed the read. According to @zerodotnetwork, “the best way to deliver on that vision isn’t maintaining a standalone chain.” The world, it turned out, did not need another blockchain.
Zerion CEO Evgeny Yurtaev, posting as @evgeth on X, put it plainly: “The world didn’t need more blockchains. It needs a better way to access them.” The fastest path, he said, runs through Zerion API, which now serves over 1,500 teams shipping onchain products.
This kind of L2 shutdown is becoming less unusual. The question of whether standalone chains can outlast their original mandate is one the industry has been answering, quietly, for months.
Bridge Now. July 31 Is the Hard Stop.
Users holding assets on ZERϴ need to act. ETH, tokens, NFTs, all of it is bridgeable and accessible, but the window closes.
@zerodotnetwork confirmed the deadline: all funds must be bridged off ZERϴ before July 31, 2026. Bridging into the network was disabled immediately. Outbound bridging stays open until that date. After July 31, block production stops entirely.
The team put out a full bridging guide and a separate FAQ covering XP, levels, DNA, and what happens to each after the network goes dark. Tickets can be opened directly inside the Zerion app.
The broader evolution of Ethereum Layer 2s away from pure scaling toward more targeted use cases has been underway for a while. ZERϴ’s wind-down fits that shift, even if the team frames it differently.
In the thread, @zerodotnetwork called out the builders who shipped on the network by name: @the_matter_labs, @Calderaxyz, @RelayProtocol, @Highlight_xyz. “You were the proof that the vision was real,” the post read.
The vision, per @zerodotnetwork, has not changed. “The team, the talent, and everything we learned from ZERϴ is being channeled into building the best wallet and data API experience in crypto, across every chain.” What changes is the method of delivery.
The chain is going. The API is staying. What users built on ZERϴ is not coming back, but where the team is headed next has 1,500 teams already waiting on it.
