The search box can write code on the spot! Google Search upgrade: it can automatically build apps, and also place calls on behalf of users.
At Google I/O on May 19, 2026, Google officially announced a major evolution for Search: within a year of launch, the AI Mode with over 1 billion monthly active users will be upgraded by default to the Gemini 3.5 Flash model for free, and will be integrated with the Antigravity programming framework for the first time, supporting live coding within the search box based on user needs, and real-time generation of customized mini apps and simulation simulators.
The most groundbreaking breakthrough of this upgrade is "Live Coding and Generative UI." When users search for complex concepts or tasks requiring long-term tracking, Search will not only provide text answers but also write code in the background and render an interactive component on the spot (such as a gear rotation simulator or interactive data charts).
For long-term repetitive search tasks like wedding planning, moving progress, or fitness check-ins, Search can even directly write code from scratch for users and package it into a dedicated mini app or dashboard. This app will automatically call APIs such as Google Maps, real-time weather, and local reviews, which users can save for long-term use.
The search box itself has also received its biggest upgrade in 25 years: supporting multimodal hybrid input including text, images, videos, files, and Chrome tabs, along with intelligent AI suggested keywords.
Additionally, Search has officially entered the era of intelligent agents. Among them, the "Information Agent" can scan the entire web 24/7 in the cloud backend and immediately notify users when complex requirements are met (such as finding housing within budget and school district, or a sneaker release); the "Ticket Booking Agent" can complete complex local service reservations with one click.
Even more revolutionary, in the US region, users can directly ask Google to "call the merchant on your behalf" to make appointments for beauty or housekeeping services.
Currently, the default upgrade to Gemini 3.5 Flash AI Mode has been launched globally; the "Information Agent" and "Live Mini App Creation" will debut this summer for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscription users in the US; the "call on your behalf" and "one-click ticket booking" features will also be rolled out nationwide in the US this summer.
