I only recently understood why Solana is called this name, and it's quite interesting. The meaning of SOL actually comes from Spanish, where it originally means "a sunny place." It sounds a bit poetic, but the project team chose this name with a deeper intention.

Think about it, what does sunshine represent? Energy, vitality, brightness. The creators of Solana wanted to use this imagery to convey the characteristics of blockchain—providing a continuous source of energy and performance. Just as the sun supplies energy to all things on Earth, Solana aims to provide high-performance infrastructure for the entire Web3 ecosystem.

This also explains why Solana has been emphasizing its performance metrics. The meaning behind "sol" is not just a name, but more like a promise—to illuminate DeFi, GameFi, NFT, and other application scenarios with fast, efficient technology. From transaction speed to network throughput, Solana is trying to live up to the meaning of this name.

It's quite interesting, right? Many people only know that SOL is the token symbol, but few truly understand the design logic behind this name.
