An interesting twist in the history of the crypto community. Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, recently re-entered public society after Trump's pardon, and his first steps turned out to be unexpectedly symbolic.

First, he held an unusual auction through the Scarce City platform, selling personal items from his time in prison and objects from his life before the arrest. He says it's time to close this chapter and start a new one. The items sold quickly: his prison-issued IDs went for 7.5 BTC, paintings he drew while incarcerated brought in another 2.41 BTC, plus various clothing and personal belongings. In total, Ross Ulbricht raised over 1.3 million dollars in Bitcoin. Considering the current rate (around 80K per coin), that's quite a lot.

But what truly caught the crypto community's attention was: a few days after the auction, when Ross spoke at Bitcoin 2025 about freedom and the values of decentralization, he received a donation of 300 BTC. About 31.4 million dollars, just like that. Lookonchain recorded this as one of the largest single donations of the year. Clearly, support from the community.

At the conference, Ross Ulbricht said that the fight for freedom is far from over, and that Bitcoin should remain a tool for individual empowerment. His speech resonated with the audience, despite all the controversy surrounding his past.

What’s interesting here? The story shows how the crypto community reacts to symbols and narratives. It doesn't matter whether you agree with his story or not, but the fact remains: people see Ross Ulbricht as a figure who stood up for certain principles and are willing to support that. It’s about belief in the idea, not about the person. The crypto universe runs on narratives, and this one turned out to be quite powerful.
