Xinhua News Agency Beijing, May 8 — (Reporter Xie Xiyao) Data released by the Ministry of Commerce on the 8th shows that in the first quarter of 2026, China’s total service import and export value was 1,822.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.3%.

The data shows that in the first quarter, China’s service exports were 704.52 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.2%; service imports were 1,118.38 billion yuan, a decrease of 2.6% year-on-year. The service trade deficit was 413.86 billion yuan, narrowing by 100.15 billion yuan compared to the same period last year.

Knowledge-intensive service exports maintained rapid growth. In the first quarter, knowledge-intensive service imports and exports totaled 793.71 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1.6%, accounting for 43.5% of total service imports and exports. Knowledge-intensive service exports reached 384.26 billion yuan, a 6.1% increase; among them, personal cultural and entertainment services and financial services grew the fastest, with growth rates of 25.6% and 16.1%, respectively. Knowledge-intensive service imports were 409.45 billion yuan, a decrease of 2.3% year-on-year.

Travel service exports and transportation service imports grew rapidly. In the first quarter, travel service exports were 105.35 billion yuan, a 32.3% increase, ranking first among all service export sectors in growth rate; transportation service imports reached 230.21 billion yuan, a 22.8% increase, the fastest among the top five service import sectors.
