- scalpers scoop up tons of the supply and continue to horde/extract from actual collectors
- new drops are bought almost exclusively by the scalpers
- collectors become less and less willing to pay exorbitant prices over time
- pokemon increases supply given the crazy demand
- eventually scalpers get stuck with massive amounts of supply and not enough net demand to sell it all at profits
- resell prices of new releases drop
- scalpers try to liquidate their massive stock and find the next profitable shiny item
