I wonder, which is the poorest country in the world by GDP per capita? I recently looked at the latest data for 2025 and here’s what I found out. South Sudan leads with just $251 per person. It’s simply shocking. Following are Yemen ($417), Burundi ($490), and the Central African Republic ($532). Most of these countries are in Africa, reflecting serious issues with infrastructure development and the continent’s economy. But there are exceptions — for example, Tajikistan ($1,432) and Myanmar ($1,177) are also near the bottom of the list. Looking at the poorest countries, it’s clear that they are either conflict-ridden nations or regions with very weak economic bases. Even India, with its huge population, is at the end of the list — $2,878 per person. When you see such numbers, you realize how vast the gap in living standards is between different countries. This is not just statistics; it’s the real life of billions of people.
