I did some digging into the history of NFTs and honestly, it's crazy to see how prices have exploded. If we look at the all-time record-breaking NFT prices, Pak's The Merge remains clearly at the top with $91.8 million in December 2021. But what fascinates me is that it wasn't even a single piece - it was more than 28,000 collectors who bought different portions. Like, the sales model was completely innovative.

Then you have Beeple who literally changed the game with Everydays: The First 5000 Days at $69 million at Christie's. The guy created a piece every day for 5,000 days. Definitely a crazy effort. And then The Clock, this collaboration between Pak and Julian Assange - $52.7 million - it wasn't just art, it was a political statement, a clock counting the days of Assange's detention.

What’s interesting with all these record-breaking NFTs is that each one tells a different story. Human One by Beeple is a 16K sculpture that updates in real time. CryptoPunk #5822 is just a rare alien design among only nine. And Alien Punks in general, they all sell for millions.

Honestly, the NFT market was wild between 2021 and 2022. Deepak.eth paid $23 million for a CryptoPunk, Justin Sun dropped $10.5 million on a TPunk. And XCOPY with his Right-click and Save As Guy at $7 million - it was a joke about how people think they can download NFTs by right-clicking. The irony of it.

Today in 2026, the market has calmed down but these records are still crazy to look at. Axie Infinity and BAYC have generated billions in total volume. It’s clear that NFTs have made their mark on digital art history, even if the sector has become much more mature and less speculative than before. True collectors know that not all NFTs will skyrocket - 95% are practically worthless according to the figures. But rare and well-thought-out pieces? They hold their value.
