No More Code Strings, Now Transaction Signatures on Ethereum Wallet Appear More Simple
The Ethereum Foundation (EF) officially launched the Clear Signing security feature on Tuesday (5/12), to make it easier for users to understand the contents of a transaction before giving approval. So far, users have often been trapped in the blind signing process that only displays complicated hexadecimal code strings that are difficult for humans to understand. With this new initiative, the transaction display in crypto wallets will change to a much simpler and more transparent language description.
As part of this standardization, EF adopts the ERC-7730 format to create structured contract descriptions. In the future, instead of seeing long code strings, users will see clear messages like "You are swapping 100 USDC for 0.05 ETH on Uniswap." EF also provides a public registry where developers can submit their smart contract descriptions for review and verification by independent security experts.
This step is considered a crucial last line of defense to prevent exploit attacks that often take advantage of user ignorance during transactions. Major players in the Ethereum ecosystem, from MetaMask, Trezor, to WalletConnect, have expressed support for this new feature. The implementation of Clear Signing is expected to make the Ethereum ecosystem safer, especially for new users and institutional-scale adoption.
