I recently talked with some friends who just entered the crypto world, and they often ask: how do you choose a good asset? The answer always comes back to one fundamental thing: DYOR is the main key before you invest money into this market.

DYOR stands for Do Your Own Research, or in our language, do your own research. But many still think this is just a slogan, when in fact it is the foundation of healthy investment decisions. DYOR is a principle that separates smart investors from those who just follow the crowd.

Why is it so important? First, security. When you really discuss a project, you can see for yourself whether the team behind it is credible, what technology they use, what their roadmap looks like, and what the community says about the project. This is much more useful than just listening to random talk on Twitter or community groups claiming 'it will definitely go up.'

Second, you can understand the real risks. Crypto is volatile, regulations can change, and security threats are always present. If you’ve done your research and understand these things, your investment decisions become more mature and not just gambling.

Third, DYOR is the best way to avoid traps of baseless speculation. In the crypto community, rumors and hype spread very quickly. If you just follow along without research, it’s very easy to become a victim of pump and dump schemes or fake projects promising fantastic results.

So how do you do DYOR properly? First, study the whitepaper and who the team behind it is. Check their backgrounds, their experience in this industry, and what they’ve delivered before. Don’t just trust big names, but look at their track record.

Second, fundamental analysis. Does this project actually solve a real problem? Or is it just hype? Also see if they have a clear long-term vision and how adoption is happening in the community.

Third, pay attention to charts and volume. Price trends, trading volume, and market liquidity can give you an idea of how stable or volatile that asset is. This is important to know when to enter and exit.

Finally, stay updated. News about the project you’re interested in can change quickly. Follow their official channels, keep track of regulation developments, and never stop learning.

I personally always apply this principle whenever I want to explore new assets. Yes, it might feel more complicated than just following someone’s advice, but this is what makes me sleep well at night. DYOR is the best investment you can make for your own portfolio.
