I recently talked with some friends who just entered the crypto space, and many of them asked about rugpulls. So I think it's really important to share about this because it's one of the main things that can cause investors to lose everything.
So what exactly is a rugpull? Basically, it's a scam scheme where the developer or team behind a crypto project suddenly pulls out with all the investors' funds. Just imagine, the rug is pulled out from under your feet—that's a rugpull. The process usually goes like this: first, they create a project that looks super promising, promote it everywhere with promises of crazy profits in a short time. Second, they launch an ICO or IEO to raise funds from interested people. After getting a pretty large amount of money, bam—they sell all their tokens, abandon the project, and the token's value plummets close to zero.
I still remember the Squid Game token case. That token's price skyrocketed quickly, but suddenly crashed completely after the scammer team did an exit scam. That was the clearest example of a rugpull, and many people got caught.
Now, what's important is how you can avoid rugpulls. First, do your homework seriously—research the development team, read their whitepaper, look at their roadmap. Don't be careless. Second, pay attention to sudden spikes in trading volume within a short period—that's usually a red flag. Third, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Promising fantastic profits with no risk? Nope, that's a scam. Fourth, store your crypto assets in a safe and trusted wallet, not on random exchanges. Fifth, it's safer if you focus on established projects with a good track record.
Honestly, joining a solid crypto community really helps. From there, you can get the latest info and warnings about suspicious projects. And if you're still unsure, there's nothing wrong with consulting an expert or financial advisor.
The main point is that rugpulls are a real threat, but you can minimize the risk with proper research and due diligence. Don't rush, don't just follow FOMO. Crypto investing requires a cool head and solid information. Stay safe out there!
