After trying Polkadot JS, I realized how truly convenient this toolkit is. It has almost all the necessary features to connect with the Polkadot network. It consists of three main components: UI, browser extension, and API, designed to support both beginners and developers.
First, let me explain the Polkadot JS UI. This is an online wallet management tool that includes basic functions such as creating accounts, sending and receiving tokens, staking, and checking network status. It's reassuring that you can back up your account with a seed phrase.
The browser extension is also very useful. By installing the Polkadot JS extension, you can access your wallet directly from supported websites. It also includes phishing protection, reducing security concerns. It supports integration with Ledger hardware wallets, allowing for even safer operation.
For developers, an API is available. It offers comprehensive features like retrieving blockchain data, creating and sending custom transactions, and supporting parachain integrations.
Setup is straightforward. Just select the tools you need from the official website and follow the instructions. If you use the extension, add it to your browser, then create a new account or restore an existing one. Be sure to store your seed phrase in a secure place. With it, you can recover your account if anything happens.
When managing accounts with Polkadot JS, a tip is that it supports multiple networks, which you can switch between using the network selection in the top left corner. You can choose between Polkadot and Kusama, as well as their respective parachains. There are also multiple RPC providers, so if your connection is slow, try switching to a different one.
Security measures are really important. Keep your seed phrase offline, and always enable the phishing site warning feature. When approving transactions, double-check carefully, and for important transactions, it’s recommended to use hardware wallets like Ledger.
The Polkadot ecosystem might seem complex, but with Polkadot JS, it’s manageable. Basic concepts like relay chain, parachains, and DOT tokens become easier to understand. For those who want to build on Polkadot or simply manage assets, Polkadot JS is an essential tool.
By the way, for those interested in Substrate development, free technical training on the Polkadot ecosystem is also offered. If you seriously want to thrive in the Web3 industry, I highly recommend taking advantage of these resources.
