I just found out that Charlie Shrem is bringing back the original Bitcoin Faucet from 2010. I couldn't believe it when I read it. Imagine: back then, they gave away 5 BTC for free to anyone who solved a simple captcha. Now, those 5 bitcoins would be worth almost half a million dollars at current prices.

Gavin Andresen was the one who originally created it, funding it with 1,100 BTC when Bitcoin was worth almost nothing. The idea was that people could experiment with free bitcoins without having to mine or buy, when that was extremely complicated. It worked pretty well: thousands of users had their first contact with Bitcoin that way.

The new site isn't active yet and doesn't have any BTC funds for now, but it's interesting to see someone want to revive this. It's like a relic from the early days coming back. With BTC around $80.92K, I wonder how they'll distribute the free bitcoins this time. Nostalgia is strong, honestly.
