Qualcomm CEO Says OpenAI, Meta Are Working On AI Wearables That Could Replace Smartphones

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon suggests the smartphone era is nearing its end as major AI companies like OpenAI and Meta are developing next-generation AI-powered wearable devices. These wearables, described as an “ecosystem of you,” would continuously collect user context through glasses, earbuds, and pins, allowing AI agents to automate tasks such as bill payments and scheduling. Amon anticipates widespread adoption of AI agents by 2027 or 2028, signaling a significant shift in computing from smartphones to more integrated, context-aware wearables.
