A major figure in the crypto industry has taken a bold step. Jed McCaleb announced that he will boldly allocate part of his cryptocurrency holdings to the development of AGI.

Jed McCaleb is known as a co-founder of Ripple, but his recent interests are clearly focused elsewhere. Through his nonprofit organization, the Astera Institute, he is seriously working on developing an AGI system based on the workings of the human brain.

The scale is incredible. He owns approximately $3.9 billion worth of cryptocurrencies, and he has decided to allocate $1 billion of that to AGI development. Additionally, he plans to invest another $600 million into neuroscience research. In total, $1.6 billion is being wagered on a path entirely different from mainstream AI development.

Jed McCaleb's goal appears to be building AGI based not on existing deep learning approaches but on principles closer to the human brain. This is an unconventional approach within the industry and a different strategy from many AI companies that are pouring huge sums into their own directions.

Shifting assets gained from cryptocurrencies into fundamental research like this may be a sign of the industry's maturity. The fact that a heavyweight like Jed McCaleb is seriously investing in long-term research and development reflects not just a business move but also an outlook on how he perceives the future of technology.
