Just realized I need to sort out my SASSA details and honestly, the process is more annoying than I thought. If you're getting permanent grants like old age or disability, you basically have to go physically to the SASSA office - no shortcuts online. They want your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works), and they'll run through verification which takes up to 21 days. The account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts or anything sketchy. Pro tip: if you want the change to kick in next month, submit before the 15th or you're waiting another cycle.

But here's the thing - if you're on the SRD status change and need to update your banking details, it's way easier. The whole thing is online through the official SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID, they send an SMS link, you click it and update your bank info. Takes a few days to weeks for verification but at least you don't have to leave your house. Same rule applies though - account must be in your name.

For cellphone number updates, permanent grant holders should call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office, but SRD users can do it online through the contact portal. You'll need your ID and application ID, enter your new number, they send an OTP, and boom - done. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA website, not some random link floating around. There's apparently a lot of fake sites trying to scam people's details. Anyone else deal with this recently?
