Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA grants for December payments. If you're on permanent grants (old age, disability, child grants), you literally have to go to the office in person—no shortcuts online. Bring your ID, proof of your new bank account (stamped statement under 3 months old), and they'll sort out the SRD banking details change process for you. Takes about 3 weeks for the bank to verify everything.

For the SRD R370 grant though, it's different. You can actually do the whole thing online through their portal. Just enter your ID number, they'll send you a link via SMS, and you update your account details there. That's the easier route if you're on SRD. One thing though—make sure whatever new bank account you're using is actually in YOUR name. SASSA won't pay into joint or third-party accounts, so don't even try that.

If you're changing your phone number for either grant, same deal. Permanent grants need an office visit, but SRD has an online contact portal where you can update it yourself. Just watch out for fake websites trying to scam people—always use the official SASSA links. If the online stuff doesn't work, call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office. Better safe than sorry with this stuff.
