Just realized a lot of people are still confused about updating their SASSA details. Whether you're on permanent grants or the SRD R370, the process is actually pretty different, so let me break it down real quick.

If you're getting old age, disability, or child grants, you can't do this online unfortunately. You have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person with your ID and proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works). They'll give you a form to fill out, send it to the bank, and it takes about 21 working days to process. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month or you'll have to wait another cycle for the change to kick in. And remember, the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts.

For the SRD grant though, it's all online which is way easier. You go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they'll send you a link via SMS to your registered number. Click the link, add your new bank details, and you're done. Takes a few days to weeks for verification. Same rule applies though—account must be in your name.

Now about changing your number, especially if you're switching phones or your number got compromised. For SRD, you can use their contact details portal on the website. Enter your ID and application ID, put in your new number, they send you an OTP to verify, and that's it. For permanent grants, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office.

One thing to watch out for: there are fake websites pretending to be SASSA. Always use the official portal or call the real helpline. Don't trust random links. Your grant payment depends on having the right details on file, so better to take 20 minutes now than deal with payment issues later.
