[Stock in Focus] HMM: The ship accident and Busan relocation are confirmed as double negatives, leading to weakness in the stock price
HMM overlaps with ship accidents and headquarters relocation issues, showing a weak trend during trading.
On the morning of the 8th, during trading, HMM fell 1.43% from the previous trading day, closing at 20,650 won. The intraday high was 21,000 won, and the low was 20,550 won.
The market believes that recent HMM ship fires and attacks in the Strait of Hormuz have dampened investor sentiment. Although the cause of the accidents is still under investigation, the fact that geopolitical risks are highlighted already constitutes pressure.
In addition, during the special shareholders’ meeting that day, the proposal to move HMM’s headquarters to Busan was approved, which is also believed to have impacted the stock price. Previously, HMM’s labor and management had been arguing over the headquarters relocation for about 150 days. With this vote, the company completed the procedures necessary to advance the headquarters move.
Previously, HMM maintained its stock price through shareholder return policies amid concerns about a slowdown in industry prosperity. Due to weak shipping rates, profitability pressures increased, and the securities industry also suggested that future operating profits might decrease. Against this backdrop, short-term negative factors such as ship accidents and the confirmed relocation to Busan are adding downward pressure on the stock price.
