Interesting fact: The GDP of the world’s largest megacities is simply staggering. New York alone sustains an economy worth $2.3 trillion. That’s even more than the GDP of most countries. If New York’s GDP were considered separately, it would make it into the top economies in the world.

Tokyo is in second place with $2.1 trillion, followed by American cities—Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago. It’s clear that the USA clearly dominates this ranking. Among other countries, only Paris, London, and Seoul, as well as Chinese cities like Shanghai and Beijing, have somehow managed to break into the top.

The data is roughly for 2024. Since then, of course, some changes may have occurred, but the overall picture shows which cities are truly the economic centers of the planet. It’s interesting to see what these figures will look like in a couple of years.
