AI tools are widening API attack risks, Akamai survey finds

A new survey by Akamai (NASDAQ: AKAM) reveals that 87% of organizations experienced an API-related security incident in the past year, with an average cost exceeding US$700,000 per incident. The study highlights significant gaps in API visibility and a growing risk from AI-related targeting, as 42% of security professionals reported attacks on APIs powering AI applications and LLMs. The findings underscore that without adequate security and testing, the rapid deployment of APIs, especially those integrated with AI, leaves organizations vulnerable.
