Problem: Physical Limitations

Modern AI clusters consume enormous amounts of energy and require powerful cooling.
The biggest tech giants plan to spend about $765 billion on data centers by 2026, but construction is slowed down due to power grid shortages and local community resistance.
Solution: Project Ocean-3
Startup Panthalassa has raised about $200 million in investments (including from Palantir co-founder Peter Thiel) to develop autonomous floating platforms called Ocean-3.
How it works:
Wave energy: The platforms move along with the waves. Water passes through internal turbines, generating electricity that immediately powers the AI chips on board.
Autonomy: No need to connect to land-based power grids.
Communication: The computing results are transmitted to shore via satellite.
Basically, they want to take the "brains" of artificial intelligence into the open ocean so it can sustain itself with energy and cooling.
