Recently, I had to use virtual numbers to register overseas accounts again, and I realized that the code-receiving platforms are really convenient. But honestly, there are so many code-receiving service platforms, and I’ve encountered quite a few pitfalls—some numbers don’t receive the verification code, some are so slow I doubted my life. It was only later that I realized the key is choosing the right platform.
Among the ones I’ve used, SMS-Activate and 5SIM are the most stable overall, usually receiving messages within 10 seconds, and they cover all countries. If mainly using domestic number segments, Super Cloud SMS and Little Bird receive codes quite quickly—about 10-30 seconds for US numbers, and even faster for domestic numbers, around 5-20 seconds. Getsmscode is cheap but sometimes slow, suitable for times when you’re not in a hurry.
The most annoying thing about code-receiving platforms is that some numbers are shared, making them easy to be flagged as risky numbers. My experience is that it’s better to load a few more numbers so you can switch immediately if one gets blocked, rather than relying on a single number for the long term. There’s also a little trick: some platforms support API integration, which allows automated handling for interface testing, saving time.
Honestly, receiving codes is just about temporarily renting a phone number, which avoids privacy leaks and makes testing easier, but don’t expect to use it long-term. If you’re just registering an account occasionally, just pick a reliable platform; but if you need higher stability, it’s worth choosing those with good reputation and low latency—spending a bit more money is worthwhile.
