Bitcoin Core Discloses CVE-2024-52911 as 43% of Nodes Remain Vulnerable

Bitcoin Core developers disclosed high-risk vulnerability CVE-2024-52911, and approximately 43% of nodes still run affected versions. The flaw affects versions 0.14.1 through 28.4 and could let attackers use a crafted block to crash nodes or execute code. Cory Fields privately reported the bug in November 2024, and the fix reached v29 in April 2025. Support for the last vulnerable 28.x release ended on April 19, 2026, but node upgrades remain voluntary.
