You know, I looked into the world's most expensive NFTs history, and it's honestly crazy how this market has exploded. We're talking astronomical sums here.

Like many people, I initially thought NFTs were just a speculative bubble, but digging deeper, you realize that some works have truly made a mark in digital art history. Pak's The Merge is THE reference. Sold for $91.8 million in December 2021, it's the most expensive NFT in the world so far. What makes this project unique is that it doesn't belong to a single collector. Over 28,000 buyers participated, each acquiring quantities at $575. Pak himself remained anonymous for over 20 years in the digital art world, adding a mysterious aura.

But Beeple isn't far behind with Everydays: The First 5000 Days at $69 million at Christie's in 2021. Michael Winkelmann created a piece of art every day for 5,000 consecutive days and compiled them into a giant collage. MetaKovan, the Singaporean crypto investor, paid 42,329 ETH to acquire it. It's crazy how this NFT marked a turning point for digital art recognition.

After that, there's Clock, a collaboration between Pak and Julian Assange. $52.7 million in February 2022. It's more than a piece of art; it's a political statement. The clock counts the days of Assange's detention and updates daily. AssangeDAO, with over 100,000 members, funded the purchase to support Assange's defense.

Beeple makes a strong comeback with Human One, sold for $29 million at Christie's. A 16K kinetic sculpture that runs 24/7, capable of remote updates. Beeple calls it the first human portrait created in the metaverse. The physical work measures over 2 meters and projects constantly evolving dystopian landscapes.

Now, let's talk about CryptoPunks. These small pixelated avatars launched for free in 2017 have become legendary collectibles. CryptoPunk#5822, a rare blue alien, sold for $23 million. There are only 9 Alien Punks in total. Deepak.eth, CEO of Chain, acquired it. CryptoPunks really laid the foundation for the NFT boom.

The list continues with other CryptoPunks sold for millions: #7523 à 11,75 millions (le seul punk alien portant un masque médical), le #4156 at $10.26 million (a rare monkey), #5577 at $7.7 million with a single super rare attribute.

CryptoPunk#3442 is also interesting. Justin Sun, CEO of Tron, bought it for 120 million TRX ($10.5 million) in 2021. Nicknamed "The Joker" because it resembles the Batman character. It's the most expensive NFT ever sold on the Tron blockchain.

XCOPY, the iconic dystopian crypto artist, sold "Right-click and Save As Guy" for $7 million to Cozomo de' Medici. The irony of the title is that many mistakenly think you can download an NFT with a right-click. The work was created in 2018 and initially sold for 1 ETH, about $90.

Ringers#109 by Dmitri Cherniak reached $6.93 million on Art Blocks. It's a series of 1,000 generative art NFTs made of strings and nails. Even the cheapest now costs $88,000.

And then there's Crossroad by Beeple, $6.6 million in February 2021. A 10-second short film created in reaction to the 2020 US presidential election. Two radically different endings depending on the result. It was a record price at the time.

In terms of total collections, Axie Infinity dominates with $4.27 billion in sales volume, followed by Bored Ape Yacht Club with $3.16 billion. These figures show the growing importance of NFTs in the digital world.

What really fascinates is how the market for the world's most expensive NFTs has evolved. Each work tells a unique story, reflects an artist's vision. Pak and Beeple clearly dominate the rankings. CryptoPunks remain flagship collectibles.

Honestly, even if 95% of NFTs have virtually no value according to some analyses, established major collections maintain high reserve prices. The total market capitalization of NFTs is estimated at around $2.6 billion currently.

The market remains extremely volatile. Not all NFTs are profitable. But works created by recognized artists with genuine innovation? Those retain their value and continue to attract serious collectors. It's fascinating to see how digital art has found its place and legitimacy.
