I just reviewed an updated list of the 30 largest countries in the world, and I am surprised at how huge Russia really is. With over 17 million km², it almost doubles Canada. The interesting thing is to see how geographic giants are not always the most populated.

The truth is, when you see the full ranking of the largest countries in the world, you realize that Asia and America dominate quite a bit. Russia, Canada, the United States, China, Brazil... all mega giants. But then there are places like Algeria or Kazakhstan that occupy high positions but are not mentioned as much.

It caught my attention that South Africa and Colombia close the top 25. I don't know about you, but when I think of large countries, I always forget that there are so many nations competing at that level. Which one surprised you the most on the list?
